Fall Back Into Summer

Today may be the first official day of Fall, but we’re not ready for Summer to be over just yet, so we picked our favorite spots in each Surf Air destination for you to enjoy one last balmy, activity-filled getaway.

Los Angeles

Stay

A quintessential stay on the coast of LA with a view that just keeps on giving.
The house itself is picturesque, not to mention the entirely unobstructed view of downtown Venice from the rooftop. Don’t let a chilly evening breeze stop you from taking your happy hour up there—a bubbling jacuzzi awaits (that’s if the fireplace doesn’t cut it, of course). So grab your suit, favorite bev, and meet the sun at the horizon while you soak.

Eat

When you’re ready to eat, make your way over to Gjusta. It’ll take you no more than 5 minutes to drive there, but we suggest a stroll so you can make a little more room for the masterpiece of a meal you’re about to experience. This is one of LA’s greatest treasures—and you’ll know it when you smell it. The aroma of their freshly baked bread alone will have your mouth watering as you approach the front door, and you’ll never be able to prepare yourself for the flavors you’re about to experience. Really all we’re trying to say is, you might want to sit down for this one.

Give the beach a day off and get away from the crowds at the Venice Beach Canals. If one of your life goals is to be in two continents at the same time, you’re about to see that come true (well, close enough). Rent a kayak, canoe or paddle board and make your way along the water, colorfully lined by houses that are a true feast for the eyes.

Waterfront Cafe makes you feel like you’re right on the beach, but there’s a full menu, friendly staff, and the most refreshing beer & wine selection right at your fingertips. The only thing separating you from the sand is the Venice boardwalk, so if you’re into people watching, welcome to paradise. Or, you can always head to the back patio for games decorated to feel like you’re in your very own backyard. Moral of the story is, you’ll have a good time no matter where you are here.

SF: San Carlos

Stay

Just 20 minutes away from the Surf Air San Carlos lounge sits a stunningly designed, Mid Century haven that will surely feed your need to relax. Something about this space makes us feel refreshed just looking at it; you really can’t turn a corner without a view your eyes will want to savor. Set with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a study (yes please!), spacious outdoor areas surrounded by greenery, and living / dining rooms that beg to be dined in, this place is sure to make your Bay Area trip worth while.

Eat

Since you’ll probably want to make dinner at home, we’ll share our favorite lunch spot, Tootsies. Prepare your appetite to enjoy the best breakfast it’s ever had, and leave wondering how soon you’ll be able to get everyone back to the brick-covered patio for lunch. Rated as one of the top Italian restaurants in Palo Alto, the Tootsies executes a menu with flavors that flawlessly harmonize with each other, as well as your tastebuds.

Nature dwellers, hiking fanatics, and adventurers alike: If you can hear me clap once!
Just a brief 5 minute walk from your Airbnb is none other than the Crystal Springs Reservoir itself, patiently—and dare we say serenely awaiting your gaze. Find the trailhead and get on your pony (you can literally ride a horse) because this hike is 15.3 miles of pure Bay Area beauty, and you’ll want to see it all.

If you’re not up to the 15 mile challenge and want to take your nature party elsewhere, look no further than the Arizona Cactus Garden. Located in a remote enclave of Stanford University, the pokey path will take you from the water to the wilderness in the blink of an eye. Welcome to the desert moment that will have you redecorating the second you get home.

SF: Oakland

Stay

On the other side of The Bay resides this light-filled, truly peaceful oasis that may as well have a bouncer filtering out any stress as you walk through the front door. It’s just 15 minutes from the Surf Air Oakland lounge and it’s also not on the market (just in case you were gonna ask after your stay). When you’re done relaxing, grab your bike or rent a scooter to make your way to the shore just 1.5 miles away for some of that Bay beauty!

Eat

If you’re not having seafood at a restaurant on a pier, is it really seafood? Probably (and hopefully), but I think we can all agree that it’s a lot more fun when you’re on the water. Well, seafood or not, we found a perfect place where you can have both. The Lake Chalet sits right on the shore of Lake Merritt, one of Oakland’s most attractive, views-for-days destinations. What was once a boathouse is now one of the most delicious looking and tasting seafood dining experiences that we consider nearly mandatory to experience. Surf Air yourself right over and Surf ‘n Turf your heart out.

Jack London District, where do we begin—views, booze and shopping for shoes (and pretty much anything else) galore. Need we say more? Make some time to spend a dime and enjoy the bayside bliss that will keep your thirst quenched, belly full, and closet refreshed. Sorry for all that rhyming back there.

Extend your stay another day just for the mural-covered treats Temescal has to offer. You guessed it, shopping meets dining meets fun meets art abounding, all colorfully gathered together for you to enjoy another day of fun. So get your camera ready, put on your walking shoes and make room for a delightful experience of the senses.

Truckee

Stay

We like to think that if Hemingway were to bring his friends and family to a cabin, it would be something like this‘. A quiet forest surrounds a wooden work of art, met by a breathtaking view of Lake Tahoe just beyond the deck. You’ll feel like you’re camping but you’ll have 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, a full kitchen, living room and two outdoor patios to choose from. Oh, and a jacuzzi. It’s a true masterpiece and pretty much the opposite of camping but they’ve somehow made it feel outdoorsy enough to do the trick. So, save us a smore and we’ll see you when we land!

Eat

It’s yummy and cute. Or yummy and cool, if you’re cool like that. It’s all of the above, and it’s just around the corner from your Airbnb. So, without further adieu, we’d like to introduce you to PDQ Market. Not only is it a market filled with everything your campfire dinner would need, PDQ also has a “build your own sandwich bar” that most Tahoma residents consider an everyday must. Sandwich. Bar.

Hiking trails, biking trails, water sports and lakeside fun can be found in Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park. You can also bring your fishing pole to the nearby creek for an abundance of fish to fry up for dinner while the rest of the crew explores the historic sights like William ‘General’ Phipps modest cabin and the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion. Something for everyone to enjoy!

More history, you ask? Hitch your horse and buggy just outside of Lake Tahoe’s oldest bar, Chamber’s Landing. And of course in case you left Secretariat at the cabin, you can drive your boat right up to the boat chalet. Yeah, you heard that right. This bar is set right at the edge of the lake so you can take your cocktails to the pier and bask in the beauty of history with Mother Nature herself.
