  • We are developing practical and scalable solutions to electrify category-leading aircraft and recognize cost and environmental savings as soon as possible. Our first generation technology will reduce costs and emissions by up to 25% (and we’re only getting started).

  • Our existing hospitality-driven consumer service is the foundation for our electric future, with proven demand and a path to scale globally. Flexible flying from smaller, regional airports unlocks significant consumer value at lower prices.

Redrawing the map

  • We are leveraging underused infrastructure across the U.S.—5,000 public airports, 18,000 aircraft—to accelerate a mass, high-speed transport solution that connects communities and serves more people in more places.

Electric aviation is closer than you think

Why now

  • As demand for flights continues upward, so too does that of carbon emissions. Surf Air Mobility has brought together the necessary solutions that exist today to pull forward the future of electric air travel. Everything from our existing consumer platform to our electrification technology is accelerating the path to zero emission flying. Moreover, the experience of air travel is at an inflection point. As flying becomes less convenient and more stressful, our flexible aviation platform changes how and where people are able to fly.

The problem

  • Addressing climate change is a categorical imperative for the air travel industry. CO₂ emissions from air transportation are rising 70% faster than predicted, and commercial aviation's CO₂ emissions and other pollutants already account for approximately 3% of the world's climate change problem and are expected to double by 2050.

The impact

  • The first generation hybrid electric aircraft will save ~25% on direct operating cost and emissions, while scaling to ~60-70% over time. Modular designs will enable subsequent plug-in and fully electric versions in the future, and an upgrade path for battery and other key components’ evolution over time to scale to fully-electric.

The roadmap

  • We are focusing first on hybrid electric upgrades for category-leading aircraft, including the 15,000 domestic and 60,000 worldwide suitable for conversion today. Hybrid upgrades reduce technology and regulatory risk, and do not require new charging infrastructure.

The technology

  • We are flying the world’s most advanced hybrid electric aircraft today, with a clear path to commercialization and scale.
  • For operators, upgrading to a hybrid powertrain is roughly equal to the cost of a routine engine overhaul. And the core powertrain technology can be applied across multiple designs: both of SAM aircraft and those created by other OEMs.

The new network

  • Making air travel sustainable will fundamentally change how we move around the world. As we reduce the environmental cost of flying to zero, we can redraw the map of where we live, work, and explore, opening up exciting new economic and lifestyle opportunities.
  • This network for regional aviation focuses on 50 to 500 mile distances that are critically underserved by legacy airlines and a bad fit for alternative emerging modes of transportation. These short-haul trips will be the first to benefit from electrified powertrain technologies and make it feasible to replace driving with flyings.

The opportunity

  • When taking a flight produces fewer carbon emissions, approaches the same cost as driving, and saves customers time, the choice to switch to air travel becomes obvious. Affordable, emission-free flight will create a virtuous cycle that makes sustainable air travel accessible to more people in more places. Hybrid and fully electric powertrains not only reduce carbon emissions but also operating and maintenance costs, making upgrading to electric engines an economic choice as well as an eco-friendly one. For consumers, the same calculus applies.
