Devils Postpile Devils Postpile National Monument are basalt columns formed over 82,000 years ago. The specific composition of minerals allowed cooled basalt lava to form into what looks like perfectly symmetrical and hexagonal columns. Rainbow Falls Rainbow Falls is a 101 foot waterfall with multiple viewing platforms and breathtaking views. It is a 5 mile round trip hike to the falls. Earthquake Fault Located in the Inyo National Forest a few minutes from Mammoth Lakes is the Earthquake Fault. At one point in time the Eastern Sierras was an active volcanic region and at the Earthquake Fault, you can see up close a huge “fault”. The fault split open around 550 and 650 years ago and is 10 feet wide and 60 feet deep.
