The Round Up
Alexander Calder Exhibit at Hauser & Wirth
Opening night: October 27; runs through January 6
Swing by this Hauser & Wirth exhibit, dedicated to the pioneering artist Alexander Calder. Works will fill the South Gallery, central open-air courtyard, and planted garden with thirty stabiles, mobiles, and standing mobiles. After taking in the art, stop by Manuela. The on-site restaurant rotates its menu seasonally — pulling much of its ingredients from the garden and chicken coop located right on Hauser & Wirth’s grounds.
Enchanted: Forest of Light at Descanso Gardens
November 17–January 5
If you have children, or just a penchant for beautifully illuminated outdoor spaces, then you won’t want to miss Enchanted Forest of Light at Descanso Gardens. Large-scale displays—some interactive—take over some of the most iconic areas of the park for a one-mile walk that’s truly mesmerizing. Fun for all ages; selfie sticks allowed.
Surf Film Festival
Of course, we had to bring this one to your attention. State & Cabrillo Productions is hosting the first-ever Surf Film Festival at Santa Barbara’s historic Arlington Theater. The film screening lineup includes: Bunker77, Endless Summer, Lost in Thought, Two if by Sea, and several others. Visit their website for more details on additional exhibits, Q&A’s, and festival parties— and to score tickets.
Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet at The Biltmore Four Seasons
Don’t feel like cooking this year? We can hardly blame you. Avoid all the trappings of hosting and instead enjoy the holiday stress-free, overlooking the Pacific, and filling your plate to the brim with chef-made holiday fare. The annual Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet takes place at the Bella Vista Restaurant, one of Santa Barbara’s most breathtaking al fresco settings.
SF is adjacent to Cab Country (aka Napa), so if you love a good full-bodied red, then this festival was made for you. At CABFest’s Grand Tasting, wine enthusiasts get all-inclusive pours of Cab Franc, Cab blends, and full Cabernet Sauvignons. If you’d like to take the experience a step further, attend one of the exclusive dinners where renowned chefs create tasting menus accompanied by wine pairings from a particular vintner. More details on the dinners here.
