Meet the Surf Air Pilatus

Our mission of creating a seamless air travel solution relies heavily on the planes we fly. We had to get the best of the best, aiming for safety, world-renowned engineering, and of course, efficiency. The Swiss-engineered Pilatus PC-12 NG ticked every box. Known for its versatility and operational excellence, the plane has become synonymous with our no-nonsense approach to air travel. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the view.

Comfort, Power, and Safety

“What makes the PC-12 uniquely capable for Surf Air’s mission is it’s so efficient,” says Tom Aniello, VP of Marketing at Pilatus Business Aircraft, “It’s a unique combination of efficiency and comfort.”

The PC-12 comfortably carries eight people and two pilots, and has a single-engine turboprop which relies on less fuel. Plus, with over six million hours of flight time, the PC-12 rivals twin-engine jets in reliability and safety.

“If you go back into the history of why there were multiple engines [on a single plane],” says Aniello, “it’s because in the 1930s and ‘40s engines weren’t that reliable.”

In 1959, Pilatus’ first PC-6 single-engine STOL utility aircraft took flight. Pilatus used a PT6 engine—a Pratt & Whitney turboprop engine ubiquitous in aircraft and helicopters, and widely considered the most prolific engine in the world. Since then, it’s proven to be the most reliable engine ever produced.

“That’s what we power the PC-12 with,” says Aniello, “and reliability and consequently the safety goes up as well. It never quits.”

Beautiful Design

In addition to ease of use, efficiency, and safety the PC-12 embodies comfort and luxury.

“It really gives you a cabin size that you’d have to spend twice as much money on in a business jet,” says Aniello. “There’s nothing else like it in the marketplace.”

Pilatus partnered with BMW Designworks to craft modern, elegant interiors. Each aircraft is individually crafted, not only meet the standards of our Members, but also its Swiss heritage.

From the moment you enter the cabin, it’s apparent that the PC-12 is truly in a class of its own. Old world craftsmanship and attention to detail come in the form of custom leather work, rare-wood cabinetry, and plenty of leg and elbow room.

Above and Beyond

A single pilot can operate the plane. However, for added safety measures, Surf Air flies with two. We require both a Captain and a First Officer on every flight. Additionally, we conduct frequent manual inspections and comprehensive pre-flight checks before every trip.

European Business Air News says the PC-12 has “the benefit of a luxury jet with the capabilities of a true workhorse.” And time and again, it’s referenced as the SUV of aircraft. Aniello attributes this comparison to the plane’s functionality and versatility: the large cargo door, big cabin, and ability to load the plane with people and gear.

“You can land it on dirt, gravel, or grass runways. You can really take it anywhere.”
